More Car-Related Physics at Jalopnik

Oh, hey, I forgot to mention the last couple of Jalopnik articles I’ve been involved with! Back in September, Jason Torchinsky asked me how well cars would drive on the exoplanet Proxima Centauri b. Unfortunately, I couldn’t tell him that, but I could tell him why I couldn’t tell him that. Making lemonade out of lemons, that’s me.

More recently, he asked me how much your headlights slow you down when you turn them on. That’s a really cool question! Because light has momentum, turning on your headlights is like having teeny rockets strapped to the front of your car with their exhaust facing forward. Your headlights do slow you down, but spoilers: they don’t slow you down by much at all.
